Last night we ate dinner at Cracker Barrel. Steven had to meet us on his lunch break, and I got there first with the boys. We went ahead to get a table and for a few minutes it was just me and the kiddos. While we were ordering drinks, this older gentleman from a nearby table came up to us, opened his wallet, and gave each of the boys a dollar. I was like, um, wow, ok. They all said thank you, fortunately, and Thomas in particular said, "Thanks for the cash!" They used their dollars to buy candy on the way out.
I was torn between thinking how awesome it was that someone did that, and thinking, great, there goes all our "stranger danger" teaching out the window. lol I guess it was ok since I was there myself to approve it. We did say that if mom or dad wasn't around, it's not ok to take money from strangers!
June book total: 28

Older men try to give EThan quarters all the time. It is not okay to take money from strangers, but what are you going to say????
28? I haven't even read 28 this year, hell probably not even since 2008! How fast do you read?
@thankful4Him2 - Pretty fast. lol I only read after the kids are in bed, or when they're watching tv. If I have uninterrupted time (which happens like once a year, ha) as in no kids or work or housework, I can read up to 3 books in one day. With work, and just normal household stuff, it takes a day or two, to read a regular paperback, depending on the size of the book.
I had to put my books on a spreadsheet because I read one twice accidentally. It was good, and the first time I listened to it on a trip. That's my excuse.
Stranger danger is not good. Safe strangers is a better theory, because you have to talk to strangers when you are lost...Moms with kids, grandmas and grandpas together, people with nametags and uniforms...It is kinda weird getting money from strangers, it happened to me when I was a kid. They must have been well-behaved!
@Wildflowersp - I've been using xanga to keep track of my books this year. I made modules on the side where I can list them. A few of the ones for June I read in 08 sometime, but I was in-between new books to read, so I re-read them. I am not listing anything I read twice in the same year.
The boys were being good at cracker barrel, I was very proud of them!
@bethro78 -I have my current year's books on Xanga too, but that can't go on forever! I also keep a record in a little book. I will likely read Finger Lickin' twice in a row, and I will count it twice. I always read the Harry Potter books twice when they came out, once to see what happens then the second time to slow down and enjoy the writing.
It was a sweet thing for him to do and I'm sure he didn't even think about stranger danger.
What did they get with their cash? Our "rule" is that Hannah can talk to anyone as long as Joel or I are present. She asks to talk to them the same way she asks to pet dogs :D But then she is extremely interested in people and always finds someone to talk to when we are out and about.
