  • Happenings from the week and Bon Voyage!

I feel like I haven't posted in forever, but it's only been a few days. We've mostly been getting ready for our quick trip to Alabama this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it! Some friends of ours just had a sweet baby girl, and this weekend is her baptism, and we're the sponsors.
We even caved, and borrowed some portable dvd players to amuse the kiddos in the van. We've never felt like those were a good idea for us, and we didn't need them at all when we went to Mississippi, a 6 hr drive. But with this being a 10 hr drive, we decided to give them a try. I'll let you know how it goes! ;o)
Side note: Packing is hard. What to take? What to leave? What if we need things I didn't think of?

Side note #2: Yesterday was my mom's birthday. I did tell her. But I'll say it again, Happy Birthday! :D

I just finished the new JD Robb book, Kindred in Death. It was good. I'm invested in that series and the latest installment was not a let down.

I hope to have pictures of our weekend adventure as we go. If it doesn't work out, you'll get them all in one whopping post after it's all over.

Lastly, I was looking for a photo to add to this post and had no picture of anything even remotely relevant to anything I said. So, I'm hereby initiating random photo Thursday.

See, didn't that picture make this post, like, 42% better already? I thought so too.

Have a great weekend everyone! Even though it's only Thursday night, I declare it early weekend. (If I can initiate random photo Thursday, then I obviously have the authority to declare "early weekend", right?)

  • Of Pirates, skeletons and Gi Joe guys

One Halloween, an unlikely group of fellows set out to inspire fear in the general public, and rob them of all their treasure.  In this band of fellows, were  Snake Eyes and Duke (am I saying that right?) from GI Joe, a pirate, and a skeleton.  Of course.

Here's the skeleton with his mask on:

The skeleton wore his mask for a terrifying 2.1 seconds.

The Duke, Getting ready to do some, well, whatever it is that he does.

Snake eyes, possessed innate ninja skills (inherited from his stealthy mother, of course) which came to light when he was almost invisible in all the pictures and managed to evade a single shot of himself.

This pirate hangs with an odd group friends. His Grandmother said we should dress him in silk all the time. He IS a dashing fellow.

Once people started putting candy in Isaac's pumpkin, he would not let go if it, no matter how heavy it got. that was HIS candy!

Scary yard decorations: Not a problem for him.

    He also had a chauffeur.
When all was said and done, who ended up with the most booty? The pirate, of course.

  • Vertically Challenged

So last Friday, the agency I work for received a check from the new Verizon Wireless store in our town, at their grand opening.  Which, is totally awesome, by the way. I uploaded the pictures Carrie took today and one thing occurred to me as I looked at them:

I'm short. I mean, I knew this instinctively. I've known it experientially.  I've known it practically.

But seeing it in action, is kind of weird. It's almost like I forgot for awhile.

Look, it's like  the nice Verizon employee is saying, "wow, this gal's short!".

  • Photography by Tom

Sometimes, the kids get my camera when I'm not looking. I was uploading some other pictures just now, and I saw approximately 15 more photos than there should have been on the camera. Thomas had it this morning. Here's some of his handy work.

    015
I call this one: "Alex likes to watch Ben10 on the computer"

    019
This one is entitled: "Keyboard: friend or foe?"

    023
He was going through his "red phase" . . . .

    026
This one is my personal favorite. If you wonder what you're looking at, I'll explain. This is the "bay" area of the printer/scanner. The paper tray, bay area, whatever. Lying there is a figurine from "Handy Manny". Looks like one of the kids was going to "fix" the printer for us.

  • It's Cookie Day

Well, actually, Tuesday is cookie day. What is cookie day, you ask? It's the day that myself, some volunteers, and some clients at the domestic violence shelter/rape crisis center I work at  bake cookies and deliver them to a certain group of people, including the Police Dept, Sherrif's dept, Fire station, Prosecuting Attorney's office, and this year, the hospital.  We do this twice a year, in October, because it's domestic violence awareness month, and in April because it's sexual assault awareness month. Why those people? Because those people are responsible for the safety OF and justice FOR victims of violent crime.

I am baking said cookies today instead of Monday because today 3 of 4 of the hooligans that live at my house are away, and won't have to be tortured by cookies they aren't eating. (ha, as if they're not going to get some too!)

Usually in October, I make some kind of post about domestic abuse with statistics and all that. I'm not doing that this year. Nope. Not gonna mention that one in four women in the United States are, or have been victims of domestic violence. I'm also not going to mention that those who leave their abusers are 75 TIMES more likely to be killed by that abuser in the process of leaving, than those who stay.  Nor will I mention that 80% of all abusers witnessed violence in their own home growing up, and are much more likely to commit other crimes when they grow up.

So don't be expecting that, because it's not gonna happen here.
